An Alcohol Dependent Person Registers For Rehabilitation And Gets Alcohol Detox And Rehabilitation For His Alcoholism

Donald used to brag to his drinking pals how he could stay employed at a full-time job and get intoxicated almost every night. Sadly, after engaging in this destructive lifestyle for approximately five years, he began to notice a variety of alcohol related difficulties.

For example, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so exhausted when he got up. Furthermore, almost every morning Donald suffered from a horrible hangover. In a word, the mixture of his lack of get-up-and-go and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To make matters worse, roughly a week ago he received his third drunk driving arrest in the past nine months.

To further complicate things, at his job his last two work evaluations were less than tolerable. And lastly, his relationship with his girlfriend had gotten worse due to his depression, angry outbursts, financial difficulties, and his lack of patience.

Though Donald was only twenty-five years old, he simply began looking like he was in his mid thirties. Regrettably, this is what careless and excessive drinking can do to a person. And in truth he comprehended that he was suffering from the negative consequences of alcoholism or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to throw away his life to irresponsible drinking. So initially he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Sadly, he soon found out that he lost his self control after consuming his first drink. Since this was an incident that was repeated virtually every time he drank, this greatly worried him. In actual fact, he started to wonder if he was manifesting some of the stages of alcoholism.

After articulating his alcohol drinking problems and his irresponsible drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually decided to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare professional. When Donald saw his family doctor, he genuinely confirmed that he has been abusing alcohol, that he may be displaying behavior that is illustrative of the different alcoholism stages, and that he wants to abstain from drinking. He said that drinking in moderation does not work well for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.

Donald also told his family doctor about his depression and how this mental health problem was negatively affecting his relationship with his girlfriend. His physician referred Donald to Doctor Mayer, a drug and alcohol addiction specialist, who convinced Donald to register in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehab. The good news is that Donald would also be able to get treatment for his depression at this treatment clinic.

After five months of intensive rehab, Donald left the in-patient treatment facility and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient counseling. Encouraged to change his life in a healthier way, Donald joined a gym and began working out three or four times per week. Within six months Donald was a new man. He was eating nutritious meals, he was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, and most significant of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more loving person in his relationship with his lady friend. In short, getting and staying sober was the best decision Donald had ever made.
